Implant surgery used to be a scary term for some patients, but with the advent of new technology, it no longer has to be. With intraoral scanning, CBCTs, and 3d printing technology we are now able to fabricate surgical guides.
What Are Surgical Guides
After your intraoral scan with our iTero and CBCT, we can merge the data together and place the implant virtually on a computer first. We’re able to examine the perfect position for the implant and the expected bone volume. And we can make sure to avoid any vital structures. After the position and implant size is finalized, we have the guide 3d printed.
Advantages of Using a Surgical Guide
Accuracy. The guide allows for the implant to be placed with incredible precision.
Less Trauma. Because of the incredible accuracy, often, the procedure will be “flapless”. Meaning that we will be working through a hole punch. Trauma is minimal and most patients report absolutely no post-op pain.
Disadvantages of Using a Guide
Guides can cost more money. But it’s an investment that is worth it. It allows for the surgery to go smoother, quicker, and with less trauma.
